Netflix is one of the most popular entertainment solutions, especially for cord-cutters. However, the service had one major drawback: it required a constant Internet connection and that meant that watching it on an airplane or in places where there was no WiFi was a real problem. The company has recently changed all that by allowing its subscribers to download some of the available content locally. In case you're interested, here's how to do that on your iOS devices.
In order to download movies and TV shows from Netflix, you first need to make sure that the app is up-to-date and you can easily do that with the help of the App Store. You're going to need version 9.0.1 or a more recent build of the application. The next step is to decide the quality of the videos that you will download; as you probably know, Netflix offers two quality levels: Standard or Higher with the second being a high-definition one. To select the quality that you prefer, launch the application, then open the App Settings and go to the Downloads section. There, you will see a Video Quality option; tap it and choose the one that you want. In case you need some advice, the Standard quality occupies less space, will get downloaded faster and the image will look just fine on iPhones. The Higher quality level is only worth the effort on tablets.
Now that that's out of the way, navigate to the Available for Download category by pressing the menu button and tapping the first option below Home, then select the items that you want to save locally. Lastly, tap the download icon and the application will begin copying your content. Once the process is finished, you can easily find your files by tapping the Menu button and going to the My Downloads section. (It's right above Home.) From there, you can play any video by tapping its thumbnail or check the running time and occupied space for each of the entries.
In case you run out of space, you can either delete all of your downloads at once or remove entries individually. To delete all the items you've downloaded, open the menu, go to App Settings, then press the Clear All Downloads button and confirm. To clear an individual entry, go to My Downloads, then use the Edit button from the top-right corner of the item that you want to delete and press the red X button. Be careful where you put your finger, as this method will delete your items without asking for confirmation.
If you're interested in what content is available, currently you'll find TV shows like Breaking Bad, Blacklist or Weeds and movies like Jaws, London has Fallen, No Country for Old Men or Pulp Fiction. All of Netflix's original content (Narcos, Daredevil, etc.) is also available.
