How Can AI Improve Facebook? How Can AI Improve Facebook?

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is evolving pretty fast and Facebook has its own plans for this technology. Earlier, Mark Zuckerberg launched a Q&A on his page and answered a number of questions from the community. One of these questions concerned Facebook's plans for the future, and Mr. Zuckerberg explained why the company is investing in artificial intelligence.

The CEO draw the curtain a little bit and told that Facebook's AI research team is currently busy developing AI-based systems that may help the social network provide more relevant information to users and make cross-cultural communication much easier. The plans include improvements in systems of contextual image recognition and automatic translation. “For vision, we're building systems that can recognize everything that's in an image or a video. This includes people, objects, scenes, etc. […] For listening and language, we're focusing on translating speech to text, text between any languages, and also being able to answer any natural language question you ask.”

Mr. Zuckerberg also said that there is much more information he will be able to share in the nearest future. The main direction for Facebook at the moment is to connect as many people as possible, and AI is the perfect piece of technology to make the automatized processes more sane and humane. Several times the CEO outlined the direction towards the development of internet.org (a project aimed to provide Intenet access to people from all over the globe), so we might hear more of it pretty soon.
