Now you can read WhatsApp texts without notifying the sender
I'm not sure if you even remember, but before the Facebook, Snapchat, WhatsApp, etc. era there was a saying which stated that "Even silence is an answer". However, nowadays a better adaptation of it would be "Even seen is an answer". What you may not know is that if you're using WhatsApp, there's a cool little trick that allows you to read the messages that you receive without letting the sender know about it. As far as he or she will be able to tell, you've never seen the text that was sent to you, so he can't get mad if you don't reply quickly enough (or at all for that matter).
If you're curious about how to accomplish this feat, there are actually two ways to do it and neither of them is very complicated:
- Once a message has arrived on your phone, but you don't want to give away the fact that you've read it, simply put your phone in Airplane mode, then open the app and read the message. Since that mode stops all communications, the app won't be able to connect to the Internet and tout the fact that you've read the message. The drawback is that as soon as you take your phone out of Airplane mode the application will be able to tell the sender that you've seen the text. So, before going out of Airplane mode you should first close WhatsApp and relaunch it only when you're ready to reply to the message.
- If you don't want to go all this trouble, you can also obtain the same result by going into WhatsApp's Settings --> Account --> Privacy and, from there, simply switch the Read receipts tab to Off. Just so you know, this method isn't discreet and will also render you unable to see when somebody else reads the messages that you send.
Unfortunately, none of the previously shown methods will work on group conversations.
