The lawsuit began in 2011, with 4 employes who claimed that Apple's treatment towards its employees broke several labor codes. In the meantime, the litigation became a full blown legal action gathering over 18.000 plaintiffs. The legal dispute was granted class status on Monday, and it includes a constantly growing number of former and current employees who work at Apple stores and on corporate operations.
Allegedly, Apple didn't provide timely meal breaks and timely rest breaks to their employees. Furthermore, the company is said to have withheld the wages compensating for extra hours and delayed paychecks for intervals ranging from days to entire weeks. The allegations in the complaint constitute violations of several labor law codes in the state of California.
The class has yet to formulate its monetary demands, but so far the attorneys are asking for damages and all the money owed to the complainants from unlawful business practices along with the counsel fees. Furthermore, Apple's recent announcement about the 7.7 billion dollars profit recorded over the last quarter and its large cash reserves will surely have the lawyers rubbing their palms.
The legal problems seem to keep on coming Apple's way, the company is currently still trying to settle a lawsuit over the accusation that the former CEO, Steve Jobs, orchestrated an arrangement with other firms from Silicon Valley to ensure that the competition won't make better job offers to the key staff.
