Congress Wants To Ensure Your Email Privacy Congress Wants To Ensure Your Email Privacy

We are all concerned about the security of our physical property. Strict rights under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments of the USA Constitution grant inviolacy of our possessions without bench warrants. As for our digital property like emails, it was rather vulnerable to government intrusion.

You may get surprised that ESPA (the Electronics Communication Act) was introduced in 1986 when storage was highly expensive and wasn't a part of everyday life. Since then, FBA has had an explicit right to read all electronic communications that are more than 180 days old. Without any warrant!

Today, Congressmen Kevin Yode and Jared Polis and Senators Mike Lee and Patrick Leahy are going to change the current state of affairs and enact a far-reaching reform so as to protect our digital property. According to the Amendments, government won't be allowed to read our electronic letters without an obvious reason revealed by the court.
