Learn Dothraki with the New Game of Thrones App
All the Game of Thrones fans will be pleased to know that there is now an iOS app that can help you learn the Dothraki language. Dothraki Companion is a mobile application co-created by David J. Peterson, the man who created the language for the popular HBO television show.
If there is still someone unfamiliar with the subject, Game of Thrones is a series of books written by R.R. Martin where several factions fight for the throne of a kingdom. The series was picked up by HBO and turned into one of the most successful TV shows in history.
In the books, The Dothraki are a tribe of nomadic warriors who embraced fighting and pillaging as their way of life. Their culture is based on strength, violence and death, while their entire history has been 'written' from the saddle of a horse. What's really interesting is that the app goes against the lore because, according to the storyline, the Dothraki didn't have a written form for their language. (Too busy with all the fighting to learn how to write)
Dothraki Companion will help you learn the Dothraki language by offering over 300 vocabulary flashcards, pronunciation tips, games, key phrases, a grammar summary, an audio course and notes on the Dothraki culture. However, you won't be able to learn the language for free. If you are interested, you will have to pay $3.99 in order to download the app.
For most people the idea seems pretty far fetched, but when I was a child I actually learned to speak in Elvish (from the Lord of the Rings books) so I would have a secret way of communicating with my best friend. Furthermore, there is also a large number of Star Trek fans who are fluent in Klingon, so this app will probably have a lot of success.
