You can now get Uber and Lyft rides from Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger is one of the most used tools to stay in touch with friends and set up a get-together. In case you're from the U.S. and your friends are having a hard time believing that you're on your way, you can now shatter any doubt by requesting an Uber or a Lyft ride directly from the app, while you're talking to your buddies. This new feature called Transportation has been recently added to the application, but it only works for the users in the United States and just on the iOS version of the app. Furthermore, at the moment, the app only lets you access Uber rides, but the official announcement stated that Lyft will be added in January.
If you're curious about how to use this new feature, it's very simple: all you have to do is to tap the car icon (situated on the lower side of the screen) or navigate your way through the "More..." menu to the Transportation section. Once you log in using your Uber account (you will need to create one if you don't already have an account), the ride will be on its way. In case you needed some more incentive, the first time you use the service from the Messenger interface you will get a $20 discount on your ride.
After recently axing its Creative Labs department, Facebook seems to be focusing more and more or its trademark apps and that is actually a huge gain for the users. The Messenger app has gotten better and better over the last period as the company removed the need for a Facebook account in order to use the chat service and is currently working on adding ephemeral messages.
