Book-addicted people refuse printed books in favour of electronic analog in spite of inimitable feeling of turning the pages over. Digital books are interactive, they let you make notes, select fragments, change the font; and it's also not very convenient to lug a huge tome everywhere. So, which program to choose for the main purpose: to read favorite books and keep your money in the pocket?

iBooks

iBooks

As a matter of fact, it's an e-book reader/library/shop all in one. The library looks like a bookshelf where the books in EPUB or PDF format are kept. The shelves may be replaced, the collections may be created and you can also search for the particular book with filters. There is a mini Apple store inside. The design is pretty on a level, concerning books/magazines library, and reading mode. The page animation charms. A very important function of searching through the text goes with Wikipedia commentary and bookmarks. Apple traditionally offers mini-settings: changing the background, font or its size.

Bookmate

Bookmate

Bookmate works in bound with the same-name service that offers the large library access after temporary subscription. Outwardly it is beautifully performed and works fast. Your personal library is close to offered books and the ones that your friends read. The reading mode is similar to other electronic book readers. I can mark out a convenient footnotes navigation, notes and quotation function, the possibility to share the text fragments via e-mail, Facebook and Twitter. Notes compensate the bookmarks lack. The settings are simple as usual: background, font, alignment, tap-zones, scrolling/paging.

KOBO

KOBO

This e-book reader for iPhones allows purchasing and downloading books right from the app. KOBO bookshelf has several tabs like 'Discover', 'Browse' and 'Search' to get more content. Create a KOBO account and download books to your heart's content. The app provides some useful stuff like night reading, fonts, orientation lock and more. You will get a pleasant reading experience and surf the in-app store conveniently. It is just a little bit slower than other co-apps: the bookmarks are animated and cause large pauses when navigating the application. Before you start accusing the app let me remind you – it's free.

Let's dispense with ratings – I'm sure, every user will choose the one with more essential features.
