Microsoft launches Fetch, the app that identifies dog breeds
Have you ever seen a really cute dog on the street and wondered what breed it was, so that you could get a similar one somewhere in the future? Well, now you don't even have to ask the owner or your dog-expert friend. Microsoft has just released an official version of a new app called Fetch. This iOS application helps you take photos of dogs, then analyzes the images and tries to tell what breed the pets are. Since the IT giant knows that the app isn't infallible, you will also see a percentage showing the degree of certainty for the respective guess.
Talking about Fetch's release, Mitch Goldberg (Microsoft research, development director in charge of Cambridge) stated: "We wanted to bring artificial intelligence to the canine world. [...] We wanted to show that object recognition is something anyone could understand and interact with." What I found to be really cool about this app is that besides guessing the breed, it will also give you a brief description of what kinds of human personality types fit with that specific dog breed. This can help you when trying to decide if you should get one or not. As you can see in the image above, the app isn't perfect and you can have a little bit of fun with it, but I'm sure things will improve with time.
